RE: City waste collection

Wow! I’m impressed. Often, we hear complaints about the hard working men and women who do the weekly waste collection. Today, however, I have to compliment the driver and the collector on my block.

Because of the Monday holiday, our collection was on Tuesday instead. The recycling and organic waste truck came by but the trash can stayed at the end of my driveway late into the evening.

Thinking I had simply been missed, I moved it to the backyard and was prepared to keep it until next Monday. However, at 1:35 p.m. Wednesday I heard the unmistakable grind of the garbage truck in front of my house. Still in my housecoat (fighting off a bug of some kind) I went to the door and said to forget me and explained I had moved my pail to the back. The collector, a handsome man with white hair and moustache, offered to get it from the yard while the driver, another strapping fellow, waited. These guys deserve a big THANK YOU, and a medal.
