final note
Getting to know Donna Pipe, from Closet Addiction.
one You’ve worn so many interesting hats in your career journey. What were they and what inspired you to become an addictions counsellor? I worked a few years in a factory, then in event planning, and then I was a car salesperson. With a daughter in university, I decided to give college another shot. Examining my options, the Addictions and Community Service Worker program held my greatest interest. I loved working in an environment that provides help to women ready to make positive changes in their lives. two Why did you switch career paths to become a consignment store owner in Dundas and how did you decide on the name? Approaching 50, I decided I had one more career in me. I’d always dreamed about opening a store that offered beautiful fashion, jewelry and vintage items. When a friend sent me the real estate listing for the sale of an established ladies consignment store in Dundas, I was all in. Ironically, the name of the store was Closet Addiction. three How would you describe Closet Addiction? I wanted to create a unique boutique style atmosphere – a whole shopping experience. There’s a vintage upright piano just waiting to be played, a Victorian loveseat that encourages many wonderful conversations, whimsical artwork, one of a kind display props, and don’t be surprised if Billie Holiday is playing in the background! four What are some of the most memorable moments you’ve had since opening? In September 2016, in collaboration with the Dundas Museum and Archives, Closet Addiction staged a fashion show to help celebrate the museum’s 60th anniversary. The models included clientele from the store. It sold out and was a great success. ¿YH What advice would you give other women entrepreneurs? I deeply encourage women to embrace their passion without fear, and take a leap of faith. Involve yourself and your business in your community to make a difference.
