A beautiful city needs vision

RE: LRT in Hamilton

Yesterday, in my usual frenzy, I jumped into my car intending to drive to Aldershot and take the train to Toronto. Discovering that the Aldershot parking lot was completely full, I drove to Toronto for a two- hour meeting. My punishment was a two-hour return drive, witnessing five accidents along the way. Welcome to our future, more likely the present for daily commuters. Never mind that I live only a few blocks from the GO station downtown, with its regular bus service. Even though I do use the bus and train services, I confess, in my eternal stupidity, that the car remains the instinctive choice for the path from here to there. But I too see the writing on the wall having experienced gridlock many times on our city streets with a single accident on the 403.

I love Hamilton. I have lived here since 1991, first in Westdale and now in a downtown condo. In that time, I have watched years wasted in projects needlessly extended, delayed and over budget by endless wrangling of our municipal representatives. Metrolinx is lumbering to fix transportation systems provincewide that are more than 20 years behind the time and miraculously willing to help pay for it.

A beautiful city needs vision and a solution to gridlock. What are we waiting for councillors? Where is your better idea? The Hand of God? Fish or cut bait for once. Virginia Aksan, Hamilton
