The four free days of the Burlington Sound of Music Festival will feature performances by Hamilton-based rock stalwarts The Trews, Toronto party pop duo USS, Burlington heavy rockers Finger Eleven, Halifax folk-rock band Wintersleep, and country groups Doc Walker and the Road Hammers.
Other acts announced Thursday by festival organizers include Hamilton pop-rocker Terra Lightfoot, Juno-winning blues singers Harrison Kennedy and Steve Strongman, former Barenaked Ladies singer Steven Page, singer-songwriter Danny Michel and ’90s Canadian alternative darling Moist.
The festival, marking its 38th year, runs from Thursday, June 15, to Sunday, June 18 (Father’s Day) at various venues in downtown Burlington.
The opening night concert at Spencer Smith Park on the Burlington waterfront features an alt-rock theme with a rare reunion show by Hamilton’s The Reason, Wintersleep and The Trews.
“This year’s lineup features more than a few flavours to tempt audiences of all ages and musical preferences,” festival executive director Dave Miller said. “Putting together a festival lineup is like a giant puzzle.”
The annual Grande Festival Parade, featuring marching bands and floats, gets underway at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 17, at Central Park (Drury Lane and New Street).
The festival is also holding a daylong ticketed “Kick-Off ” concert on Saturday, June 10, featuring The Offspring, LIVE, Marianas Trench, Smash Mouth, Spin Doctors, Killer Dwarfs and Sumo Cyco, as well as a special appearance by Randy and Mr. Lahey from the “Trailer Park Boys.”
Tickets are $60, available through Ticketfly.com.
