Independent booksellers celebrate Authors for Indies
Local independent booksellers are celebrating Canadian literature this Saturday, April 29, during Authors for Indies, a nationwide event involving more than 100 independent bookstores.
At Epic Books, 226 Locke St. S., authors will be signing books, making book recommendations and helping customers to complete an in-store scavenger hunt.
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Gary Barwin, author of numerous books including “No TV for Woodpeckers,” his newest collection of poetry. “Yiddish for Pirates,” his first novel was shortlisted for both the Giller Prize and Governor General’s Award and is longlisted for Leacock Medal, which will be awarded June 10.
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: Nicola Winstanley, author of “The Pirate’s Bed.”
11 a.m. – 1 p.m.: John Terpstra, author of numerous books, including “Mischief,” his newest collection of poetry. Winner of both the Hamilton Art Award, Established Artist for Writing and the Hamilton Literary Award for non-fiction.
1 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Mark Osbaldeston, author of “Unbuilt Hamilton”
1 p.m. – 3 p.m.: Brent van Staalduinen, author of “Saints Unexpected” 2:30 p.m. – 4 p.m.: Edy Graziani, author of “Breaking Faith”
3 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Joanne Levy, author of “Crushing It”
3 p.m. – 5 p.m.: Jamie Tennant, author of “The Captain of Kinnoull Hill”
Several authors are expected beginning at 4:30 p.m. at A Different Drummer Books, 513 Locust St., Burlington. Authors confirmed to visit include Rona Arato, Gary Barwin, Melodie Campbell, Chris Dooley, Jill Downie, Krista Foss, Jennifer Gold, Edy Graziani, Marilyn Helmer, Sylvia McNicoll, Jennifer Maruno, Nicholas Pengelley and John Terpstra.
