Why did my rates go up 136 per cent?

RE: Car insurance rates

The Hamilton Spectator - - OPINION -

OK, like everyone else I never saw the 25 per cent reduction in my car insurance last year and really didn’t expect it. But I darn near had a heart attack when I opened my renewal. The new price is 136 per cent higher than last year! Same coverage, no changes, have all the deductions, no claims, squeaky clean record, too. So, I call around and every insurance company is the same. What cost me $1,500 last year is now over $2,000! I’d like to know why rates went up 136 per cent? Jay Miller, Greensville
