Drugs, speed factors in fatal

-

Drugs and alcohol played a role in a fatal Queenston Road crash in January, police have confirmed.

A 27-year-old St. Catharines man who died Jan. 4 after his car veered off Queenston Road and hit a concrete pole was impaired “by a combination of alcohol and drugs” at the time of the crash, police say.

Hamilton police’s collision reconstruction unit announced the toxicology results Friday, adding that speed was also a factor, as previously noted.

A 25-year-old passenger in the car, who was from Hamilton, was taken to hospital for serious but non-life-threatening injuries and later released.

This investigation is now concluded. No charges have or will be laid.
