Fire marshal to investigate second fire at same house
The Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to determine the cause of a second fire at the same house on the Stoney Creek Mountain on Friday.
The fire also sent two firefighters to hospital for observation after two department trucks collided in what department spokesperson Claudio Mostacci called a minor accident.
“At that time, the heavy smoke and fog in that area was bad,” he said. “The visibility up there was pretty well zero.”
Firefighters first responded to a call at 1041 Ridge Rd. around 8:18 a.m. Friday for a small fire. Mostacci said the fire had already been put out by the homeowner by the time firefighters arrived. Still, firefighters used a thermal imaging camera to ensure it was extinguished and the house was safe after the small fire that was deemed to have been caused by an electrical problem.
The second call to the same house — at the corner of Eighth Road East outside of Winona — occurred at about 4:50 p.m., after the homeowner heard smoke alarms. This time, firefighters saw flames on the second floor that had gone up into the attic, Mostacci said.
Damage was estimated at $100,000.
