Asian carp have short dorsal fin compared to common carp

Four species: bighead carp, silver carp, grass carp, black carp

All of the species known collectively as Asian carp originated in major river systems in China and Russia

Suitable spawning conditions exist in up to 57 Canadian rivers

Most Asian carp species can grow to more than 40 kg and live up to 20 years

The species consumes bottom debris to survive and will not compete with zebra mussels
