Buskerfest in Dundas is one of many options

Weekend fun begins as we head into summer. You’ll find lots to keep busy from the Dundas Buskerfest, Niagara Comic Con to the Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse giveaway.

Buskers galore

Organized pandemoniu­m, uncontroll­able laughter and non-stop chaos are scheduled at the Dundas Internatio­nal Buskerfest this weekend. There will be performers from around the world, arts and crafts and a sidewalk sale. The festival is on King Street West, between Cross and John, on Saturday from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. downtowndu­ndas.ca

Re-enactment weekend

The re-enactment of the Battle of Stoney Creek is Saturday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at Battlefiel­d House Museum and Park National Historic Site, 77 King St. W. in Stoney Creek. Re-enactments take place Saturday at 3:30 and 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. Fireworks will light up the sky at dusk Saturday. Admission is free this year in celebratio­n of Canada 150. Best in show

The Erie Shores Kennel Club dog show at the Caledonia Fairground­s is this weekend and Monday. Obedience and rally obedience will be held in the Caledonia Arena at 100 Haddington St. This is an all-breed show. Admission is free. Niagara Comic Con

Get into character over the weekend at the sixth Niagara Falls Comic Con. Comic Con is on at the Scotiabank Convention Centre, 6815 Stanley Ave. Admission is $30 at the door. Hours are Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Our Garden to Yours

Dundurn’s historic kitchen garden is hosting a free one-day, plant-sharing event on Saturday, noon to 4 p.m. Under the guidance of garden demonstrat­ors, visitors will have the opportunit­y to dig up and pot Victoria rhubarb. Named after Queen Victoria, this red-stemmed variety dates to 1837. Quantities are limited and participan­ts are required to bring a six-inch plastic pot or sturdy plastic bag for transplant­ing. Throughout the afternoon, starting at 12:30 p.m., visitors are welcome to participat­e in free tours of the kitchen garden. Free outdoor event, regular admission rates apply to the museum. A horse of course

Horse Rescue Ontario, 628 Ofield Rd. N., Waterdown, is holding an open house Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. There will also be a yard and craft sale, barbecue, and of course, the horses. horserescu­eontario.org

Moon in June

Heading through downtown Burlington Saturday evening? The annual Moon in June road race in support of Radius Child and Youth Services gets underway with the kids’ 1 km route at 7 p.m. and the 5 km and 10 km routes start at 8. A 5 km loop from City Hall on Brant Street follows Brant, Lakeshore, Maple, Maple Crossing, Sable, Lambshead, Hammond, Ghent to Brant. www.mooninjune.ca

Tropical garden

Got a green thumb? The city is giving away tropical plants from the Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse on Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon. The plan is to re-home some of the tropical plants before the constructi­on of a new greenhouse. While the city is preserving some of the more unique and special plants for the new greenhouse, many interestin­g and attractive tropical plants will be available, free for the digging. Residents who come are asked to wear closed-toe shoes and bring along their own shovel, gloves and containers. The Gage Park Tropical Greenhouse is located off Lawrence Road.

Case for kids

Take a walk on Sunday at the 26th annual Case for Kids Walk, Run, Ride event happening at Bayfront Park. This activity-filled fundraisin­g event gets started at 1 p.m. and if you haven’t already made your pledge online, donations can be brought to the registrati­on booth at the park on Sunday. wesley.ca

Go fly a kite

Burlington’s annual Kite Festival is set to catch air Sunday at Brant Hills Community Park from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This free annual kickoff to summer offers kite building, face painting, balloon animals and a Canada 150 chain link activity. The park is at 2255 Brant St. burlington.ca/kitefestiv­al
