- THE HAMILTON SPECTATOR

Burlington is the best mid-sized city in Canada and the second best Ontario city in which to live, according to an annual list by MoneySense Magazine.

The 14th edition of the Best Places to Live ranked 417 cities in 2017 — nearly double the number of communities looked at last year.

Burlington scored well when it came to crime rates, weather, wealth and incomes, according to a press release from the city. It is also considered a “top place” to retire and a welcoming place for new Canadians. Overall, it ranked ninth in Canada. “There are many moving parts that go into creating a city, from economic prosperity to cultural vibrancy, from preserving history to building healthy communities,” Burlington Mayor Rick Goldring said in a media release. “This is an acknowledgement of all of the people, past and present, who have worked to make Burlington the great city it is today.”

Hamilton placed 61st on the list of Ontario’s best cities in which to live, and 145th in Canada.

According to this year’s list, the top places to live in Ontario are: 1. Ottawa 2. Burlington 3. Stratford 4. Oakville 5. Saugeen Shores 6. Russell 7. Halton Hills 8. LaSalle 9. Kincardine 10. Waterloo
