Officer injured while apprehendi­ng man in distress

A 40-year-old man was tasered by Hamilton police after resisting being apprehende­d under the Mental Health Act.

A police officer suffered minor injuries during the incident at an apartment building on Mohawk Road East near Upper Wellington Street around 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Police had been called to the apartment building about a person in crisis but the man resisted going with an officer. The officer called for backup, leading to a significan­t police presence in the area.

The injured officer was taken to hospital for observatio­n.

Police are still investigat­ing whether criminal charges are warranted.
