Hamilton woman leading campaign to build two Kenya school rooms

-

A Hamilton woman is leading a group of executive MBA students trying to raise $50,000 to build two school rooms in Kenya in support of women’s literacy and gender equality.

The group has partnered with the We Movement for the project in the Maasai Mara area of Kenya, said Vasie Papadopoulos.

She said as part of the MBA course at the Ivey Business School at Western University the students are required to do a social impact project. They decided on Kenya when they were looking for an area where they felt they could make the most impact.

Fellow student Justin Robinson said the group was passionate that whatever they did it supported young girls.

“When young girls feel empowered and they know they have options, it’s a tremendous combination,” said the father of three. “They can really take control and take their lives to the next level.”

They hope to go to Kenya for the build next year. If they raise more than $50,000, the extra money will go toward providing scholarships to young girls in that region.
