Khadr should give the money back

-

RE: Our laws say we owe Khadr (July 6)

If the writer really believes this then the current law does not reflect the seriousness and potential consequences of terrorism and it is time it was rewritten.

As it stands the existing laws failings are responsible for a known terrorist, who admitted responsibility for the death of a U.S. soldier and the wounding of another, to receive, courtesy of the Canadian taxpayer, a cheque equivalent to more than the average working Canadian takes home in a lifetime.

To rub salt into the wound the Liberal government refuses to confirm the actual amount of the tax dollars they have handed over and in a cowardly move expedited the payment, in an obvious attempt to prevent the families of the said soldiers presenting their case in a Canadian court and by doing so grievously insulted our southern neighbours.

There is nothing in this deplorable and sordid episode that the Liberal government or the Supreme Court can be proud of. Khadr should do the decent thing and give the money back. Les Farrington, Ancaster
