Khadr deserves even more

RE: Omar Khadr

I have been feeling depressed by the number of bigoted and xenophobic Canadians ranting about Omar Khadr. I now realize though that many are just ignorant.

If everyone knew all the facts, I have to think the reaction would be different. At his second military trial in 2006, eyewitness reports came to light that revealed Khadr was discovered unconscious, probably stunned by the initial blast that destroyed the compound. Reports emerged that an adult Mujahedeen fighter also survived, and it was this fighter, later killed, who probably threw the grenade that killed Sgt. Speer.

Khadr was later shot in the back by American troops. Imprisoned, and made to do things to make his injuries worse. He was hung from his wrists and forced to urinate on himself and then roll in it. Canada wanted him declared a child soldier, but that wish was ignored and he was sent to the worst part of Gitmo. He was tortured again and again.

His rights were violated. There is more than reasonable doubt he didn’t do what he was accused of doing. He deserves all of his half of the $10 million, and more. Karen Ross, Hamilton
