Make sure to lock down your property
RE: Community safety
Recently, my digital camera was stolen from our car which was parked in our carport. Unfortunately, I had forgotten to lock the car and bring the camera into our house. Although the camera was in the glove compartment, it was still accessible as the compartment does not have a lock — 99.9 per cent of the time, I lock the car.
The one time I forget to do this, the theft of a valuable item occurs. Possibly the thief had made previous attempts, but this time it worked. Some neighbours related to me that they have noticed individuals at various hours of the night checking parked cars.
This was a hard lesson for me, but also a sad testament for a community where we only seem to be free when our property is locked down. Paul Belcher, Hamilton
