COACH­ING

HAMILTON SMASH VOLLEYBALL CLUB The club is seek­ing as­sis­tant and po­ten­tial head coaches for the 2017-2018 in­door sea­son. Coaches are ex­pected to at­tend prac­tices twice a week, oc­ca­sional week­end tour­na­ments and be will­ing to de­velop their coach­ing skills through on­go­ing ed­u­ca­tional op­por­tu­ni­ties. A pas­sion for work­ing with youth, or­ga­ni­za­tional abil­i­ties and lead­er­ship are a must. Pre­vi­ous ex­pe­ri­ence play­ing volleyball and coach­ing youth sports is a def­i­nite plus. HAMILTON SMASH VOLLEYBALL CLUB Con­grat­u­la­tion to Bri­anne Whalen and Alyssa Lalli on their gold in 13U Premier at the On­tario Volleyball As­so­ci­a­tion (OVA) Beach Tour this past week­end. The pair was un­de­feated through­out the tour­na­ment win­ning all in straight 2-0 sets. This is their fifth tour­na­ment gold and they are ranked No. 1 in On­tario. Both Bri­anne and Alyssa plays for Legacy Beach and Hamilton Smash Volleyball Club. Both coached by Adam Pod­stawka and Mar­cus Wu.

AROUND THE DI­A­MONDS

HAMILTON OLDTIMERS’ BASE­BALL OR­GA­NI­ZA­TION Dan Creechan banged out four hits to lead the Tigers to an 11-10 vic­tory over the A’s in a Hamilton Oldtimers’ Base­ball Or­ga­ni­za­tion 55-and-up di­vi­sion game. Wayne Pryde had two hits and three RBIs for the win­ners while Tom Manuel and Har­vey Sahker each had a pair of hits. Brian El­wood, Greg Stod­dard and Keith Howard each belted four hits for the A’s while Tom McGrat­tan had three hits, scored two runs and had two RBIs. Steve McClure had a pair of hits for the A’s.

ON THE PADDOCK

HAMILTON HOR­NETS RUGBY FOOT­BALL CLUB Se­nior women were in Fer­gus play­ing High­land in the first match of a se­nior triple header Satur­day. Hamilton scored first but the score at half­time was 19-14. Can­dace DeBoer and Carissa Brown scored tries. Cas­sidy Smith kicked both con­verts. Ca­reena Brown scored Hamilton’s lone try in the sec­ond half. Cas­sidy Smith kicked the con­vert for a fi­nal score of 29-20. Se­nior men’s first team had a tough 20-9 loss High­land in Fer­gus. Will Redgate scored all Hamilton’s points on penalty kicks. Three kicks worth three points each. The se­nior men’s sec­ond team had a close match in Fer­gus. It was 17-10 at the half. David Mul­doon scored his first try for Hamilton, Jamie Whan kicked the con­vert and a penalty kick. In the sec­ond half Jacob Met­calf and Scott Hendry each scored one try. Jamie Whan was per­fect on his con­verts for the day. The sec­ond team won 24-17.
