Trudeau should heed Spec editorial

-

RE: Don’t supply terror tools to tyrants (Aug. 2)

Kudos on your editorial calling on the Trudeau government — if the reports are true — “to kill the (Saudi arms) deal and tell Canadians in no uncertain terms it has done so and will not support new deals that carry the same risk.”

I would like to point out that the Saudi monarchy not only used the Canadian light-armoured vehicles against its own citizens but against civilians as well during the “Arab Spring” in Bahrain in 2011 when the Bahraini monarch called for help to quell pro-democracy protests there.

In addition, Canadian sniper rifles have been spotted in Yemen, being used by Houti rebels who likely captured them from Saudi armed forces currently engaged in an attempted invasion of Yemen.

It’s time the Trudeau government stopped enabling the Saudi government at all.

After all, the Saudis have been the main financiers of the terrorist mercenaries of al-Qaida and ISIS operating in Iraq, Syria, and Libya, among other places. Saudi Arabia could not possibly carry on with its brutal human rights abuses at home and abroad without the backing the US and its NATO allies, including Canada.

By the way, the editorial cartoon was brilliant too! David Rennie, Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War
