Kitten left behind in the back of a cab

Cellphones, money, groceries — those are the often-forgotten items Jagtar Singh Chahal sees left behind in taxis.

But there’s a first time for everything, and that includes finding a tiny tabby kitten in the back seat of your cab, says the CEO of Hamilton Cab.

“There’s nothing we have not received — except for a cat,” he said Thursday.

On Wednesday, one of Singh Chahal’s drivers picked up a passenger from an apartment building and dropped him off at Jackson Square. A couple of minutes after the man got out, the driver found the small fluff ball in the back of cab No. 353.

Singh Chahal said they have tried the passenger’s phone number but have not been able to reach him despite calling “many times.”

The driver brought the kitten — named “353” and “Cabby the Tabby”— back to headquarters where hundreds of people were gathered at a barbecue for company staff and the community, he said.

Staff, who insisted on making a temporary home for 353, set up food and litter in an office, where the friendly kitten was curled up on a stack of papers Thursday morning.

“It’s very beautiful and my staff loves it,” Singh Chahal said.

But some of his employees have allergies and the administration office is closed in the evenings, so they would like to find the feline a furever family. “We can’t keep it here for a long time,” he said. “We want a full-time owner.”

Anyone interested in adopting the pet is asked to contact Hamilton Cab at 905-777-7777.
