Teen charged in string of armed robberies
A 17-year-old Hamilton resident is facing charges in connection with a string of armed robberies since April.
The teen, who cannot be named under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, was arrested and charged with robbery after a holdup at the Pita Pit at 798 Concession St. on Aug. 9.
In that case, police say a lone male walked in around 7:23 p.m., brandished a knife and threatened an employee. He tried to take money from the till but fled empty-handed.
Later that night, around 9:47 p.m., police allege the same suspect entered the Best Buy Convenience store at 66 Fennell Ave E., brandished a knife and demanded cash from staff. He fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
An investigation by the break, enter, auto theft and robbery (BEAR) unit led police to arrest the 17-year-old.
Police believe he’s also responsible for four other robberies where a gun was seen:
April 22 at City Convenience, 380 Crockett St.
April 23 at Pita Pit, 798 Concession St.
April 27 at City Convenience, 380 Crockett St.
May 5 at City Convenience, 380 Crockett St.
The 17-year-old is charged with seven counts of robbery, six counts of disguise with intent, three counts of using a firearm during an offence and 16 counts of breaching a youth probation order.
