When will Americans step up on Trump?

-

RE: Trump presidency

Another week, another deluge of Trump abuse, stress and angst.

Make no mistake, there is collateral damage to Canada as well as much of the world, free or otherwise. Productive international relations did not get Mr. Trump elected. Bullying protestations did.

And that’s key. What he delivers is what it took him to get elected.

What’s missing in action here is the American elected politicians. Republicans hold power in the Congress and the Senate. Power is the key word. The Democrats do the shouting while the Republicans do the whispering. The people with the power who can effect real and sustained change in what is being played out on the world stage are not ready to stop him. Mr. Trump gave the Republicans the power in the White House and it will be the Republicans who will stop him when he finally crosses that invisible thin line.

This is to be expected. To the winner goes the spoils. There is never talk in the USA that first past the post isn’t best. Even in Canada, our Prime Minister talked the talk but abandoned the walk.

Why? Because democratic majority is still power, something a politician survives on.

When will the Americans step up to the plate? A tiny impeachment seed has been planted. The rest of us wait.

Power, once lost, is rarely regained. If it can happen in the USA can it happen in Canada? Mr. Trudeau’s well intentioned talk is worth a careful walk. Don Graves, Burlington
