Book offers designer’s perspective to create the life you want

- -– By Danielle Leonard

Do you dream of living a fulfilled life and working at a job you love? According to authors Bill Burnett and Dave Evans, this is possible if you approach your life through a designer’s perspective.

The Stanford University design educators and cofounders of Life Design Lab, provide readers a stepby-step process for thinking like a designer and building the life you desire in their New York Times bestselling book, “Designing Your Life: How to Build a Well-Lived, Joyful Life.”

Published in 2016, the book offers an engaging and thoughtprovoking read that is bound to inspire readers to adjust their beliefs around what is possible.

More than just a book on how to find the “perfect” career, Designing Your Life helps the reader answer more profound questions around what it means to lead a fulfilling life. Burnett and Evans emphasize that the key to achieving your definition of fulfillment is by moving in the right direction rather than focusing on a final goal, which truthfully, is always in transition.

Be sure to keep a pen and notebook handy (or a laptop.) The authors challenge you to honestly assess your current life through a variety of exercises such as selfreflection, journaling and collaboration.

Certainly, the effort to transform your life using this book will not be a passive endeavour. However, it’s a worthwhile investment for anyone who feels there’s got to be more to life “than this,” but just doesn’t know where to start.
