$125,000 Gertrude Street house fire considered suspicious
A house fire in the east end that caused an estimated $125,000 in damage is believed to have started under suspicious circumstances and is now under investigation.
Firefighters were called 107 Gertrude St., off Gage Avenue North near Depew Street, at 11:14 p.m. Tuesday, said fire department spokesperson Steve McArthur.
Firefighters found a blaze in the two-storey wood-frame house that was endangering neighbouring homes. Extra crews were called in as a precaution, McArthur said.
The fire was contained and the neighbouring houses weren’t damaged. There were no injuries. The Ontario fire marshal’s office is investigating because the fire is considered suspicious.
Firefighters couldn’t immediately find the owner of the home.
