Praise for Mac pediatrics researcher
Dr. Peter Rosenbaum — a McMaster University researcher in childhood disabilities — is being honoured with the Carmel Award of Merit from the Canadian Friends of Haifa University in Israel.
The pediatrics professor will receive the award in recognition of his lifetime achievements into childhood disabilities research. It will be given out during the Mount Carmel Dinner Oct. 22 in Toronto at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel.
“I am incredibly flattered … it really was totally unexpected,” said Rosenbaum on Thursday, adding he is also excited for the opportunity to talk briefly about the improvements and breakthroughs for disabled children and their families.
“We’re thinking much more now about what kids can do rather than what they can’t do.”
Rosenbaum is the co-founder in 1989 of CanChild, a McMaster research centre and world leader in the field of childhood disability focused on improving the lives of chil- dren with a variety of developmental conditions and their families.
Elham Farah, an Ancaster resident and Canadian Friend’s vicepresident, nominated Rosenbaum.
She said Rosenbaum has brought about a new way of thinking, and, with his colleagues at CanChild, done “world-renowned research.”
The annual Mount Carmel Dinners honour Canadians who have made significant contributions to academia, science or humanity, or are public figures, said the Canadian Friends’ executive director Hetty Shapiro.
