The Hamilton Film office has announced the details of a major blockbuster shoot that will shut down Kenilworth Avenue North between Britannia Avenue and Barton Street East next week. The filming, which will include pyrotechnics and explosives, will completely block traffic on Monday Oct. 16 and Tuesday Oct. 17, save for two hours during rush hour.

The film, “Lucky Day,” is being billed as a “smart, dark and totally irreverent crime thriller” starring Crispin Glover, Nina Dobrev, Luke Bracey, and Michael Madsen.

Bracey, an Australian actor best known for his work in “Hacksaw Ridge,” plays Red, a Kenilworth will be completely closed on Monday, Oct. 16 and Tuesday, Oct. 17, from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. The southbound lanes will be reopened each day between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. for evening rush hour, however, the northbound lanes will remain closed for the entire duration both days. The #41 Mohawk Bus Route will be detoured. The northbound route will head down

host of Hollywood hits, plays a psychopathic contract killer determined to avenge the death of his brother — whom Red accidentally killed during a job gone wrong.

“Lucky Day” is written and directed by Roger Avary, who shared an Oscar with Quentin Tarantino for screenwriting on “Pulp Fiction.” The film’s producers, Samuel Hadida and Don Carmody, are the pair behind the “Silent Hill” and “Resident Evil” franchises.

“Lucky Day” has done most of its principal photography in Hamilton and recently wrapped up several weeks shooting at the Cotton Factory at 270 Sherman Ave. N.

While Hamilton is becoming an increasingly popular location for movie shoots, it’s rare that a production requires the full shutdown of a city street. Still, Coun. Sam Merulla says the overall reaction has been positive.

“The filming on Kenilworth has been received with a great deal of excitement by both residents and businesses and we look forward to future events accordingly,” he said.
