TORONTO — Five things to watch for in the Canadian business world in the coming week:

Weekly stats: Statistics Canada has a busy week ahead and will release data on Canada’s internatio­nal transactio­ns in securities for August; investment in nonresiden­tial building constructi­on from the third quarter; the monthly survey of manufactur­ing for August; retail trade figures for August and the consumer price index for September.

BoC gauges business outlooks: The Bank of Canada will release the autumn issue of the Business Outlook Survey and the Senior Loan Officer Survey on Tuesday.

Earnings season: A group of major Canadian companies will release earnings this week, including Fortis Inc. and A&W Revenue Royalties Income Fund (Monday), CP Rail (Tuesday), Corus Entertainm­ent Inc (Wednesday), and Rogers Communicat­ions Inc. and Postmedia Network Canada Corp. (Thursday).

The future of banking? Bank of Canada senior deputy governor Carolyn Wilkins will participat­e in a panel discussion at Sibos 2017 Toronto on “Blockchain and payments: Lessons learnt and future prospects” on Tuesday.

How badly does Ontario want Amazon? Ed Clark, Ontario Premier Kathleen Wynne’s business adviser, speaks to the Canadian Club of Toronto about the province’s approach to supporting Ontario bids for Amazon on Wednesday, the day before the Oct. 19 deadline for bids for its new North American office.
