How CMS has positively shaped my life

- BY SIERRA CORDEIRO, GRADE 7

By being a part of the Canadian Martyrs School community, my life has been positively shaped in many various ways. Here at CMS, learning the importance of positivity and kindness has always been a focus. We hold Kindness Fairs that help students and teachers learn to relax, and focus on the positive in every situation. Attending these Kindness Fairs has helped my friends and I think and act more positively. I have noticed that any of the negative situations I may be complaining about have been turned into positive situations all because of what I have learned through the Fairs. I have been able to think about positive things I could to do to turn negative situations around, and indeed those negative situations were turned around and they became positive memories. That has been a really useful tool that I have learned through Canadian Martyrs.

Canadian Martyrs is unique because of its small population. With under 200 students, our size allows us to develop new and lasting connections that are not always possible in a bigger school where there are many different classes for each grade. Normally, grade 8’s wouldn’t hang out with grade 7’s, but here at our school, we all seem to know and help each other out. It isn’t unusual for an intermediate student to know the names of almost all the students from kindergarten to grade 8. This helps makes everyone feel like they matter. Students at Canadian Martyrs are treated like a family.

Finally, CMS is a very welcoming school. There are many students here at CMS that come from different backgrounds, some with rough back stories, but just when they think that no one will want to be friends with them, they are surprised by the warm welcome that awaits them at CMS. I believe they feel this way because everyone at CMS accepts newcomers with open arms because we are empathetic. We remember to treat people they way they would want to be treated. It is an important lesson that CMS strongly supports.

To conclude, I strongly believe that because of everything Canadian Martyrs has taught me, I can be more positive. CMS restores my faith when the world feels like it has turned its back on me. This school gives me a positive attitude and has positively shaped my life. I am very grateful that I have been given an opportunity to attend this school.
