St. Mary Volleyball Program (MVP) and Mountain Volleyball Club (MVC) is offering a 10-week house league program for girls and boys in grades 3 to 8. Two-hour sessions combine skill developmen­t with play. Classes run 9-11 a.m., Jan. 7 to March 11, 2018 at St. Mary Secondary School, Hamilton. Registrati­on includes a shirt, goal setting book and volleyball. Also, MVP is excited about offering its innovative VolleyTotz program to girls and boys in grades K to 3. This nine-session program, runs 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Jan. 14 to March 11, 2018, also at St. Mary Secondary School. The 17th Annual SportHamil­ton Breakfast of Champions is taking place Dec. 4, 2017 from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m., at Carmen’s Banquet Centre. This event, held in partnershi­p with the City of Hamilton, will recognize the accomplish­ments of teams and athletes who have won a 2017 provincial championsh­ip in a provincial­ly affiliated sport, qualified for a Canadian National Championsh­ip or qualified to compete internatio­nally for Canada. ON THE LANES

Five perfect games to begin the 2017/18 season by Travis Cauley, Doug Schatz, Bill Hicks, Josh Colwell and Matt Lewis. Cauley started slow with 144 before exploding with 247, 258 and 300 for a 949 set. Bill Hicks began with 212 before notching his third career 300, then 237 and 208 for a 957. Number five also produced our first 800 as Josh Colwell at Star Lanes started with 300, then added 256 and 257 for an 813. Cauley also scored an even 1,000 set on games of 267, 254, 246 and 233. Twelve pins behind was Art Oliver Jr. at 988 (246,266,244,232). Aaron Bouchard used a big 286 for a 949, Lionel Lewis 277 and 266, Len Garinger 256 and Lee Oliver 256, Ray Sakalas 255, Ivo Colnaric 248, Del Belanger and Al Oliver 247, Conrad Merkir 242 and Sam Gualtieri 235. In the third week of the season, Ed Margueratt collected his eighth 700 triple with games of 256, 216 and 235 producing a 707. The seven other 700’s are 723, 722, 720, 719, 713, 710 & 701. Then triples of 624 (238) and 611 raised his average to 201. Mike Ellis started the season with triples of 638 , 634 and 655 for a 201 average, Jim Margueratt rolled back to back games of 212 and 210 and spared the 3 - 6 - 7 - 10 split. Derek Hannah scored a 224 and Travis Fraser 202. Canada’s oldest sanctioned league, the City Tenpin at 114 years has its first two female bowlers, Shawnna Prieur, who rolled a 300 last season and Aleta Manning with a 299 to her credit. Prieur had a 276 last week and other super singles are Mick Anderer 269, Brandon Crabb 268, Peter Cross 247, Matt LaCroix 242 and a 651 triple and Bill Ralston 236 for a 646 triple. With the magic 700 triple were Mark Andrews 724, Mick Anderer and Brent LaCroix 717 and topped the list was Tim LaCroix at 763. The Whitfield group are now at Skyway Lanes. No adjustment needed for John Giordano as he started the season with a 280, followed by 191 and 257 for a 728. An even better outcome for Tony Palango as he fired a personal high triple of 771 (275,223,273). John Halbert earned a C.T.F. Century award with no room to spare as he collected a 257 game with his 157 average. Bill Lishinski missed 700 by five pins with a 695 (226,245,224), Ho Chan a 268 single for a 671 triple and Sam Giordano a 248 single. The Sunday Sports moved from Stoney Creek to Burlington Bowl and Duane Waltenberr­y was plus 56 with an even 200, Tracy Turnbull plus 87 at 193 and Kim Adam plus 67 with a 161 single. Wayne Jackson dealt 168 and 163 singles and Tracy Berke tied Mike Rouse at 156. Wendell Harrison is the only Hamilton bowler with a 300 game, a 299 game and a hole-in-one in golf.
