Food Network takes a bite out of Bitten: “The Baker Sisters” will feature the Locke Street bakery on Friday

- EMMA REILLY

The Food Network is adding a dash of Hamilton flavour to its Friday night lineup.

“The Baker Sisters,” hosted by bakers and real-life sisters Rachel Smith and Jean Parker, is featuring Bitten on Locke this week.

The show, in its first season, follows a similar format to the popular Food Network show “You Gotta Eat Here.” The Baker Sisters visit three locations in North America to sample the treats, then head to the kitchen to see exactly how the goodies are made. Its producers found Bitten, a bakery that offers cupcakes, whoopie pies and butter tarts, through its social media posts and reached out to owners Rebecca Tomasic and Erica Savoy.

Bitten is the only Hamilton bakery that will be featured in the first season. Tomasic and Savoy ended up closing their shop for two days to film the segment.

“They were just so professional, so nice, and complimentary — they made it really easy to be a part of something we were so unfamiliar with,” said Tomasic.

“They got as many free cupcakes and butter tarts as they wanted.”

Bitten opened its doors six years ago and business continues to grow, Tomasic says.

“We really have always stuck to our guns on the quality of what we make. We use real butter, real cream, and we bake our products every day fresh that morning.”

“The Baker Sisters” will air Friday at 10 p.m. on the Food Network.
