HSR drivers gave me great service

-

RE: Are the wheels coming off the HSR? (Nov. 15)

I realize there are problems with public transit in Hamilton as there are probably in many cities. But I want to compliment the service based on the experience I had recently.

As I am new to Hamilton I wasn’t sure which bus in the core I should board to reach my destination. A driver, who was changing shift with another driver on the bus I thought was the right one, said she’d take me where I needed to stand and told me which bus number to board. We chatted along the way, about a half a block, and continued our conversation at the prescribed stop. It was a while before my bus arrived and but her conversation and company made the time fly. Then when my bus came, she didn’t get on as I expected, but walked away to do some shopping.

That was a kindness way beyond anything I would expect. And she was cheerful despite the fact that she had to work four hours, then break for a few hours before returning to her four-hour afternoon shift. And she looks after the very fast paced King Street and Barton Street routes.

Two other drivers I encountered were very polite and helpful with customers entering the bus on wheelchairs.

I hope a satisfying remedy comes quickly as from my witness our bus drivers are doing a great job and go well beyond the call of duty. Patrick Flynn, Hamilton
