Thanks, Henry, for the thoughts on littering

RE: Spectator Pulse page

This letter from Hamilton Coun. Jason Farr is to a young author recently published on The Spectator’s schools page:

Dear Henry:

Thank you for your thoughtful letter in the recent Pulse section titled: ‘Letter to Councillor Farr.’ Your engagement on littering in the North End is much appreciated. Especially when coming from a young person at Hess Street School who sees first-hand the negative effects of littering in his community.

I really liked your ideas on how we, as a council, may address these problems and hopefully reduce the amount of litter we unfortunately see. I am happy to report that while we have added “more garbage cans to the area,” we will add some more based on your suggestion. I have asked our Waste Department to assist finding the best locations. Great thought on “volunteer cleaning groups.” This is encouraged and annually supported through our Clean and Green Hamilton Team Up to Clean Up day. If you and your classmates would like to get involved, the City will offer supplies and come pick up the litter. Finally, as for your suggestion on “educating kids more about littering,” while you have done a very good job moving the yardsticks, I agree there is always more we can do to get the word out.

So, glad to see you “give a hoot and don’t pollute,” Henry. Thanks for the letter. PS, I have shared this with my 12 year old grade seven son, Jake.

Councillor Jason Farr, Hamilton
