Halton Regional Police are asking for the public’s help in finding a man accused of running from a crash scene and then stealing a car from a senior citizen to continue his getaway.

Police say the man crashed at King and Plains roads in Burlington around 2:40 p.m. Thursday when he took off on foot. He then allegedly ran to a gas station where he stole a car from an older woman who was pumping gas.

He drove away in the car, a dark-grey 2005 Acura ATL four-door, before colliding with a cruiser after a short chase. Police haven’t found the stolen car and are asking witnesses of the pursuit to come forward with information.

Police have also identified the suspect as Terry Lurch Strome. The 41-year-old from Dundas is wanted for several offences, including robbery, flight from police, dangerous driving and criminal negligence.

Strome has a history of violence and is known to flee police.

“Personal safety is the No. 1 priority, please call police and do not approach the suspect,” Halton police urged in a news release Friday.

The licence plate of the stolen car is BBJL781. The Acura was last spotted entering Highway 407 heading west at Highway 400 at 7:14 p.m. on Thursday.

Anyone with information relating to the investigation is asked to contact Det. Jared McLeod at 905-825-4747 ext. 2385 or Crime Stoppers to offer tips anonymously at 1-800222-8477 (TIPS).
