Jerusalem letter not a fair representation

-

RE: Canada should have spoken up against U.S. (Jan. 10)

This letter contains several dishonest arguments. For example, U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision on Jerusalem did not remove its final status from negotiations with the Palestinians. As for inflaming tensions, are the endless Arab wars against Israel dating back to 1948 or their modern charters calling for Israel’s destruction, not inflammatory?

And who is Hamilton Coalition to Stop the War to define “fair arbiter” when they have consistently been antiIsrael, with some of their members joining the Iranianbacked annual Al-Quds day demonstration in Toronto where participants call for the death of Israel?

And what exactly is meant by the “integrity” of UN resolutions? Israel, which is democratic, which has never started a war or expressed a desire to wipe out another country, in recent history has been condemned by the UN General Assembly and Human Rights Council more often than all other countries combined. The reason? The UN is heavily influenced by the 57-member Organization of Islamic Co-operation and supported by countries which rely on M.E. oil and/or who fear terrorist reprisals. Further, Israel is the only country permanently on the UNHRC agenda despite the extreme human rights violations by Saudi Arabia, Iran, Syria, China, the Palestinians and others, many of which are openly supported by HCSW. So, can we dispense with the lies about “fair arbiter,” the “integrity” of UN resolutions and the “stopping of wars” once and for all? Steven Scheffer, Burlington
