Ron Hawkins is the lead singer and songwriter for iconic Canadian rockers Lowest of the Low. He’s performing solo Friday, Jan. 26, 7 p.m., at the Mule Spinner at the Cotton Factory, 11 Lansdowne Ave., with opening act Hamilton singer-songwriter Deeps. $25. Advance tickets through eventbrite.ca.

Hamilton’s favourite blues and boogie band performs with keyboard player Jesse O’Brien in a special Saturday matinee, 3 to 6 p.m. at the venerable Corktown Pub, 175 Young St. Admission is $5. You may also want to take in the Sunday blues matinee, 2 to 6 p.m., with Brant Parker and the Corktown Blues Band.

Juno nominated jazz singer Alex Pangman bills herself as “Canada’s sweetheart of swing,” and you may find yourself wanting to jitterbug when she performs Saturday, Jan. 27, 8 p.m. at the Old Fire Hall Arts Centre, 334 Wilson St. E., Ancaster. Tickets are $35. Call 905-966-3853.

LANGUAGE ARTS

Language Arts is the name of a Toronto duo (Kristen Cudmore and Neil MacIntosh) that fills their albums with bright and shiny pop nuggets like “Neighbour.” They are performing Saturday, Jan. 27, at Mills Hardware, 95 King St. E., with Close Talker and Grey//Water. Show starts at 9. $10 in advance or $15 at the door.

STEVE SINNICKS

Hamilton singer-songwriter Steve Sinnicks is releasing a finely crafted new album called “TIH” (This is Home) recorded with Carl Jennings and Bill Majoros. Sinnicks shows a bit of his rock side on this one, but remains close to his storytelli­ng roots. Hear the new songs Sunday, Jan. 28, at Mills Hardware at 3 p.m. $20.
