More study needed on legal pot

-

Senators argue that the government should take more time to launch an education campaign on the negative impact of cannabis use on youth. Bravo! This is the first sensible step I have heard in the legalization of pot.

It is a known fact that the human brain is still developing until at least the age of 21, and it is a proven fact that cannabis use by youth can interfere with healthy brain development.

With legalizing pot and having it for sale in places like LCBO stores, it will be easier for underaged youth to have legal-aged teens purchase pot for them. More and more curious teens will want to try pot and will obtain it this way. Whereas previously only dealers in the “underworld” had pot available.

Making pot more easily accessible to youth and the negative impact it can have on the development of the brain and psyche needs to be addressed and preventive measures taken.
