Hamilton’s DJ Cam-B third in world scratch-off
Hamilton’s Cameron Ballantyne — better know to local dance club patrons as a.k.a. DJ Cam-B — has placed third in the eighth annual Red Bull world DJ championship.
Ballantyne, 34, was representing Canada in the Red Bull 3Style World Finals in Krakow, Poland, over the past week against representatives from 23 other nations around the world.
On Sunday, a panel of judges declared Ballantyne the thirdplace finisher to winner Damianito, of Italy, and second-place finisher DJ Cross from Belgium.
Ballantyne, who has been DJing for the past nine years at Che Burrito Lounge in Hess Village, earned a spot in the world championship by winning the Canadian title.
Ballantyne, best known for his freestyle scratching technique,
won the competition’s first heat on Wednesday, earning him a spot in the final round Sunday.
Competitors had to perform a 15-minute set drawing from three different genres of music. Ballantyne’s set included “Kid Charlemagne” by Steely Dan, “DNA” by Kendrick Lamar and “Bulls on Parade” by Rage Against the Machine.
