Extracurricular Activities

- BY BEN CAVANAGH, GRADE 8, MOUNT HOPE

Extracurricular activities can be an advantage to student success because students like them, it gets students involved in their school, and they are a good preparation for high school.

Firstly, students like extracurricular activities. Students want to come to school because there are activities like sports, bands, and clubs. It makes students enjoy coming to school to participate in extracurricular activities that they want to take part in. Students want to try and behave when these activities are hosted because they want to be rewarded with activities they want to do.

Another reason why extracurricular activities can lead to student success is it gets everyone involved in the school. One of the best feelings at school is having a school community. A community at school is a school where anyone can go ask for help, or where everyone is supported and is encouraged to achieve great things. Extracurricular activities build that community, make those friendships, and form those connections. Extracurricular activities make school a great place for everyone to come.

Finally, extracurricular activities are a great preparation to get students ready for high school. At high school, there are so many extracurriculars. For example, sports like hockey and football, clubs like DECA and school council, several bands, and more! These are great preparation for high school because there are so many activities in high school, and it can create a good sense for work and non-work balance. There is so much more homework in high school than elementary school, and extracurricular activities can help with balancing your school work with other activities at school, just like your work/life balance after high school.

To conclude, extracurricular activities can lead to student success because students like them, it gets students involved in their school, and it is a great preparation for high school.
