The number of goals tallied by the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds last weekend — in two games. The CHL’s No. 1 ranked Hounds destroyed the east-leading Hamilton Bulldogs 10-0 before going on to beat the Sarnia Sting, their top competition in the west, 7-1. Their plus-110 goal differential is also far and away the best in the OHL. The only other team that even comes close to matching that number is Sarnia at plus-81.

2

The number of times Aaron Luchuk has been named CHL player of the week this season. The 20-year-old Barrie Colts centre was recognized for recording three goals and six assists over the weekend, and his three straight multi-point performances helped the Colts clinch a playoff spot. Luchuk, who leads the OHL in scoring, is the first player this year to receive the honour twice.

1.63

The number of points per game Luchuk has averaged since being traded to Barrie by the Windsor Spitfires in mid-December. In 27 games with the Colts, the Kingston native has 15 goals and 29 assists and has been rendered pointless just five times. Amazingly, he’s actually scoring less than he did in Windsor, where he registered 1.7 points per game to start the season.

45

The number of OHL players that are producing at over a point-pergame pace after last weekend. Former Spitfire Gabriel Vilardi tops the list with 42 points in 21 games with the Kingston Frontenacs, followed by Sarnia’s Jordan Kyrou and the Soo’s Morgan Frost at 1.91 and 1.68 points per game, respectively. Luchuk and Kitchener’s Logan Brown, who also started the season in Windsor, round out the top five.

76

The number of career wins amassed by Vilardi’s teammate Jeremy Helvig in the wake of a 29-save, first-star performance against the Rangers Sunday. The 20-year-old netminder leapfrogged Chris Clifford to set a new franchise

record in the 6-1 decision. A Markham native, Helvig also owns the franchise record for most shutouts at 10 and goes into the weekend with an OHL-best save percentage of 0.920.

8

The number of wins Helvig has registered against the Bulldogs — or 12, if you count last year’s firstround playoff. The Carolina Hurricanes draft pick will have a chance to improve his record to 9-4-1-1 with Hamilton in town for the last regular-season meeting between the divisional rivals Friday. The Bulldogs lead the best-of-six season series 3-2.

7

The number of goaltending records that have been bested around the OHL this season. On top of the marks set by Helvig, Sarnia’s Justin Fazio set new franchise records for career wins, career games by a goaltender and single-season wins, while Saginaw’s Evan Cormier set new standards for career games by a goaltender and shutouts.

40

The percentage of Saginaw’s last 20 games decided in overtime or a shootout. Since Jan. 5, the Spirit are 7-8-5-0 with two shootout wins and one in OT. So, while they have a losing record over that stretch, they still earned 19 of a possible 40 points despite matching up against the Soo four times, Sarnia three and Kitchener twice. That’s not bad for the second youngest team in the OHL.
