BURLINGTON — A Halton police investigation has led to four people being charged in connection with a string of armed bank robberies.

The first happened Feb. 1 around 7:50 p.m. at the Scotiabank on Dundas Street at Appleby Line in Burlington, where three men robbed the bank.

On Feb. 9 around 8 p.m., Halton police were called to another armed robbery at a Scotiabank on Main Street East in Milton. Two masked men, one armed, robbed the bank. An employee who tried to intervene was assaulted and suffered minor injuries.

Halton police said they began surveillance on a person suspected of being involved. This led investigators on Feb. 14 to a group of people who appeared to be preparing to rob another Scotiabank at Rathburn Road and Renforth Drive in Toronto.

Halton police contacted the bank. When two people moved toward the bank, plainclothes Halton officers arrested them.

Toronto police charged Gareth Baugh, 19, of Toronto, Jazmyn Elias-Weibl, 18, of Mississauga, and a youth who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, each with robbery and disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.

A fourth suspect, Tyriq Brooks, 19, of Milton, was charged Feb. 23 with robbery with a firearm, pointing a firearm, wearing a disguise with intent, possession of a restricted firearm, possession of a weapon for the dangerous purpose, careless use of a firearm, and possession of a controlled substance.
