Nexxice, the world-renowned Burlington-based synchronized skating team, rang up another string of successes at the national championships in Oshawa over the weekend.

The senior team, world champions in 2009 and 2015 and third last season, beat out traditional rivals Les Supremes of St. Leonard, Quebec, for the national title. Both teams will represent Canada at the World Championships, April 6 and 7, in Stockholm, Sweden.

Nexxice has won 11 of the last 12 Canadian senior titles, including a string of nine in a row, snapped by Les Supremes in 2016. They won the Trophy D’Ecosse in Scotland in February, after finishing fifth earlier in the month in the prestigious, and deeper, French Cup.

“We plan to peak for Worlds,” said Nexxice senior coach Shelly Barnett. “We plan to work for it. There is definitely some room for improvement. We see where we can improve our marks.”

Nexxice Juniors also qualified for their world championships, slated for Zagreb, Croatia, March 16 and 17. They finished second at Nationals, to Les Supremes. Both teams advance to Junior Worlds.

Nexxice’s Open team also finished first, against the largest field at Nationals. The intermediate team was second to Toronto’s Meraki, and the novices were also second, edged for the title by just 0.54 of a point by Nova from Boucherville, Quebec.
