A global day to celebrate
social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women
We are thrilled to be part of the celebrations for International Women’s Day. This global day honours the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. Taking place Thursday, March 8, 2018, this year’s theme is #PressforProgress – encouraging women everywhere to press for progress for gender parity within their own spheres of influence.
The women you will meet within these pages have shown inspirational commitment to the development of other women and the overall improvement of the community. The YWCA congratulates the 2018 Women of Distinction Award nominees. The awards are nationally recognized as one of the most prestigious awards for women. YWCAs across Canada join in the celebration each year to honour outstanding women and their achievements.
Hamilton and surrounding areas is home to a wide network of remarkable women. Each of the 2018 nominees brings their own brand of leadership, skills and creativity to the communities in which they live and work. On Thursday, March 8, the award winners will be announced at the YWCA Hamilton’s Women of Distinction Awards. Nominees will be selected from the following categories: Young Women of Distinction; Arts, Culture, Design; Business Leadership, Entrepreneurship; Community Leadership; Education Mentorship; Outstanding Workplace; Health; Science, Technology, Trades; Lifetime Achievement.
Their efforts remind us that women can be the authors of tremendous success in a number of capacities. There is no limit to what can be achieved nor boundaries within which to affect positive change.
This year, IWD calls on each of us to motivate and unite friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive.
Now, more than ever, there’s a strong call-to-action to #PressforProgress motivating and uniting friends, colleagues and whole communities to think, act and be gender inclusive. Individually, we’re one drop but together we’re an ocean. Commit to a “gender parity mindset” via progressive action. Let’s all collaborate to accelerate gender parity, so our collective action powers equality worldwide.
