Hamilton police and the family of William Bokstein say they’re increasingly concerned about the 50-year-old’s safety two weeks after he went missing.

“This is not normal for him, so I don’t know what has happened,” his sister, Lorna Bourque, said Thursday. “He would never in million years do this to his family; he would call somebody; he would never walk away and leave his family.”

Bokstein was last seen in Hamilton on Feb. 23 and then went to Niagara Falls, where he was last spotted early on Feb. 25, police said. Hamilton police said Niagara Police have been helping with the search.

Bourque said her brother told no one he was going to Niagara Falls and didn’t pack any clothing. His car has been found and he checked into a hotel, the Falls Manor Resort on Lundy’s Lane, but never checked out. Bokstein works as a personal support worker and has a 13-year-old daughter.

“He’s very happy, very easy going, everybody loves my brother,” Bourque said, adding the outpouring of people offering to help and posting on a Facebook page dedicated to finding Bokstein has been “unreal.”

He is described as a white man, five-foot-10, 180 to 190 pounds, with short dirty blond/grey hair, blue eyes, a nose ring and earring on the left side, and tattoos on his forearms, legs and torso. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a bright-yellow hoodie.

Bourque said she’s concerned because Bokstein has faced a lot of tragedy recently with the death of family, a friend and a patient with whom he was close.
