Police continue search for standoff suspect
Police will spend the next few days searching a home and the grounds of a Six Nations property as they continue to hunt for a wanted man who was allegedly armed in a confrontation with some elementary schools parents.
The incident first unfolded March 4, when a group of concerned parents approached the house at 2130 Cayuga Road, over alleged drug activities near I.L. Thomas Odadrihonyanita Elementary School.
Three allegedly armed men, one believed to be Brett Elgin Elliott, were there as parents complained about drug paraphernalia, including syringes, on the school grounds. No shots were fired, but the parents backed off and called police.
The school remains closed, Six Nations Police said in a release. Traffic access to the Cayuga Road home is also restricted as police investigate.
Elliott, 49, is “considered violent and anti-police” and the “patriarch” of the Cayuga Road property that’s next to the school.
He’s wanted on numerous outstanding arrest warrants on charges relating to firearms, resisting arrest, flight from police and possession of stolen property, the police said.
Six Nations Police and OPP executed a search warrant at the Cayuga Road home on Friday at 5 p.m. It’s the same location where four people were removed last week, including a 93-year-old grandmother. There are no updates on charges the four could be facing.
Police also executed a search warrant at 3644 Sixth Line Road on Six Nations after reports Elliott was there. He was not. However, police did seize a number of guns and do believe Elliott had been there.
“From the cooperation and information Six Nations Police are receiving from the community, the alleged illegal activity that Mr. Elliott and his family are involved in will no longer be tolerated,” Six Nations Police said in a release.
Anyone with information about Brett Elgin Elliott is asked to contact the Six Nations Police Service at 519-445-2811.
