ON THE LANES

Scott Tarbat has rolled our seventh 800 triple of the season as games of 278, 257 and 277 produced an 812. A 216 fourth game gave him a 1,028 set. Earlier 800’s are Art Oliver 823, Josh Colwell 813, Steve Smith 809, Billy Craig 804, Chris King 802 and Ryan Dickenson 800. All-time 800 triples in Hamilton now total 115. After Barb Hollands reported that Tamiko Hikida spared the 2-7-9-10 split, Barb spared the 1-5-10 split, then a few frames later left it again, but missed it. Jim Margueratt knocked down the six and seven pins on his second shot, but the three pin was still standing. The first honour scores of the season have been recorded at Burlington Bowl and Splitsville Burlington. At the former, Rob May, a Dundas resident with a 211 average, started with a 247 before 12 strikes in a row for a 300, then 215 for a 762 triple. Then at the latter, Frederick Renaud with a 167 average, followed a first frame spare with 11 strikes for a Century award winning 290 single which was 123 pins over his average. Then 187 and 207 games enabled him to post a 684 triple, 183 pins over his average for three games.

In October Ryan Dickenson, trying for his fifth 300 game, came up short with a 296. One month later he fired his fifth 300. No stopping Ryan as two months later games of 288, 277 and 235 with three strikes in the tenth frame produced an even 800 triple, his second after an 827. Then a slim three weeks later perfect game number six was the second game of a 993 (224, 300, 242, 227) set.

Reliable Roy Katz is back with reporting that at Skyway Lanes six big triples by Ian Colby (223, 222, 209), Bill Carter 654 (223, 222, 209), Dave Clark 651 (236, 235), Mark Giordano 650 (245, 224), Scott DeWolfe 634 (245) and Dave Dickey started with a 253 to slip over 600 at 609. Mike Bomben blasted a 565 (204), Barry Reid tripped a 549 (211), Rick Squires 507 (176) and Zeiko Krasulja eased over 500 by one pin with a 181 high game.

Roy then reports at Burlington Bowl after Janet Katz finally rolled her first 200 game after 30 years, almost had her first 500 triple as 165, 162 and 172 for a personal best 499 triple, just one pin short. Val Ciach-Link, 193 average, drove her way to a 646 with games of 211, 222 and 213. C.J. Price used a 207 for a sparkling 553 and Debbie Daoust, 115 average, a 167 for a 403 triple.

Ed Margueratt has surpassed 650 for the fourth and fifth times this season as games of 248, 203 and 218 totalled 669 to raise his average to 199, then games of 239 and 246 paved the way for a 654 and a 200 average. Earlier high triples this season were 710, 707 and 663 along with a so-close 649. Top average for the VSL group is Mike Ellis at 203 after recent triples of 686, 650 and 610 along with sparing the 2-4-10 split. Pat Horton scored a 249 single and Derek Hannah blasted a 235. Lisa Howard maintained her 184 Monday Knight average with a 628 triple and 245 single.

Tough spare conversions are Ed Margueratt the 1-2-4-10 twice in the same game, and Barb Roy converting the 6-8 split along with the 3-5-10. A correction has Sean Bailey firing a 1,020 (247, 269, 226, 278) set, not 1,000 as previously reported. It was reported by Sean himself and was his first time over 1,000.
