Quidditch Nationals

Quidditch Canada has more than 600 players, 22 teams and 160 officials. This weekend, you can watch the national championsh­ips at Tim Hortons Field. Opening ceremonies are Saturday at 7:50 a.m., with the first game underway at 8:30 a.m. Games are scheduled until 8:30 p.m. Play starts again Sunday at 7:15 a.m. with the medal games at 5:45 and 6:45 p.m. The closing ceremony at 7:45 p.m. Admission to the event is by donation; quidditchc­anada.com.

Unbuilt Hamilton

See Hamilton’s building plans that didn’t make the cut, in whole or in part, for better or for worse. The exhibit features 24 illustrati­ons, plans and photograph­s at the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology National Historic Site, 900 Woodward Ave. Open Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. The event is free. Regular admission applies for museum tours.

Easter dining

Good Shepherd’s annual Easter dinner will offer a seat at the table and a free hot meal to about 400 people downtown on Saturday from 3 to 5 p.m. The Good Shepherd Centre is at 135 Mary St., Hamilton. Guests will dine on ham, scalloped potatoes, vegetables and dessert, served by volunteers and staff.

Maple festivals

Westfield Heritage Village Maple Syrup Festival runs Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit the sugar shack, enjoy a wagon ride and children’s games. Be sure to stop in the Ironwood Hall for a pancake breakfast; westfieldh­eritage.ca.

Sweet Water Season runs weekends until April 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Crawford Lake Conservati­on Area is at 3115 Conservati­on Rd. in Milton; conservati­onhalton.ca. Maple Town is weekends until April 2, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mountsberg Wildlife Centre is at 2259 Milburough Line in Campbellvi­lle. The park will tap about 600 trees and syrup will be produced in the Sugar Shanty. Bronte Creek Provincial Park’s Maple Syrup Festival runs weekends from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. to April 1. Admission is $17 per vehicle.

Open and closed

• All LCBO and Beer stores will be closed on Easter Sunday and open on Monday.

• Post offices are closed Easter Monday.

• Federal and provincial offices are closed Monday.

• HSR operates on a weekday schedule on Monday.

• GO Transit is on a regular weekend schedule on Saturday and Sunday and weekday schedule on Monday.

• Hamilton and Halton garbage collection moves to Saturday for those with regular pickup on Friday. There is no change to household pickup on Monday.

• The Hamilton Public Library is closed Easter Sunday and Monday. The Burlington Public Library is closed Easter Sunday.

• The Art Gallery of Hamilton, 123 King St. W., is open all Easter weekend, from noon-5 p.m. For informatio­n, call 905-527-6610 or see artgallery­ofhamilton.com.

• The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Call the museum at 905-679-4183 or go to warplane.com.

• The Hamilton Farmers’ Market is open Saturday but closed Sunday and Monday.

• CF Lime Ridge, Eastgate Square, Mapleview and Burlington malls are closed Sunday, open Monday.
