Banksy work coming to Hamilton

-

A piece by one of the world’s best-known and most notorious artists is coming to Hamilton.

Banksy’s “Haight Street Rat,” which the anonymous British graffiti artist painted in San Francisco in 2010, will be displayed in Hamilton on June 15 and 16.

“Haight Street Rat” was one of many paintings Banksy left behind during his 10-day trip to San Francisco (though much of his work was painted over). The piece has since been the subject of the documentary “Saving Banksy,” which described how art collector Brian Grief successfully saved the piece from being destroyed.

The piece will be displayed at Collective Arts Brewing at their first Liquid Art Festival in June.

“The nature of street art makes it rare for a piece to be able to travel. When this opportunity came up to bring one of our favourite art forms, especially a Banksy, to Hamilton, we jumped on it,” Collective Arts Brewing co-founder Matt Johnston said in a release. “It’s a unique opportunity for fans of Banksy, and they won’t have to travel too far to see his work in person.”

The Liquid Art Festival features more than 50 brewers from around the world, live music and live art by street art collective “The Weir” and artist Loch Ness, from Bristol, U.K. Banksy’s “Height Street Rat” will be on display during the weekend for festivalgoers, along with a Collective Arts screen-print gallery.
