Trustees not interested in consultation

RE: /HALTON CATHOLIC BOARD CONTROVERSY

The last meeting of the Halton Catholic School Board was abruptly ended by five petulant trustees who, when they didn’t get their way, up and left in protest. Since there wasn’t a quorum, the meeting couldn’t continue.

At the heart of the matter was the insistence by these same trustees to put forth a motion relating to their proposed ban on charities that directly or indirectly go against the Catholic faith — according to them, that is — a motion that has created considerable backlash! However the board chair disallowed this new motion because the Education Act states you need to have a consultation process with all the stakeholders before you can move forward. Seems reasonable, fair, democratic, right?

However, instead of letting the process take its due course and listening to all the parties involved, these five trustees were only interested in listening to their own voices. This is the shameful example they are setting for the students — that what they have to say is more important than what is legal, what is right. Is this how you demonstrate your catholicity?

The names of these trustees is public record and elections are coming up. Use your “Power of One” to vote for someone who will be there to work for the whole community, not their own narrow thinking.
