Bury LRT and spread the billion around

RE: LRT

As the ongoing saga of the impending LRT in Hamilton continues, there are two very important things we need to remember.

One, Hamilton is not in China or Europe or western Canada. And despite the fact that an LRT might be marvellous in other places, there are many who believe it just won’t work here.

Two, if a new provincial government wants to give us a billion dollars and let us use it how we wish, well, that’s their prerogative. And this also gives a little more wiggle room to those at City Hall who were fence-sitting in the first place. I have already heard of councillors stating a swing in their vote if the money can be used elsewhere.

As far as the money already spent by Metrolinx, that’s their problem. Would you go out and buy expensive furnishings for a house you do not yet own? Quite a bit of air has been yet again let out of the sails of the rapidly-sinking good ship LRT. Let’s bury this thing once and for all and spread the money around to greater benefit.
