Spec must cover constructive protest

RE: WHEN WILL CITY HALL FINALLY WAKE UP? (APRIL 10)

The Spectator photo last fall of Mayor Fred Eisenberger and Coun. Maria Pearson gleefully cutting the ribbon at the opening of the giant Costco shopping mall off Fifty Road was truly discouraging. To see our elected officials celebrate the opening of another juggernaut shopping emporium on Niagara Fruitbelt farmlands shows the staggering lack of foresight or concern for the people living here.

When I called City Hall to express my concern about the development of housing surveys all over the Winona region, I was told this was only being allowed on non-greenbelt land north of Highway 8. Land deemed not productive farmland.

Now, a few months later, there is development starting south of Highway 8. Is this land suddenly not productive, either?

Interesting that this letter was right beside an article by Mary Love decrying the federal government’s push to send pipelines of dirty bitumen offshore. To hell with concerns about the pristine B.C. environment it could destroy, the animals that live there or native lands it will cross. People who care need to stand up and say NO! Bravo to those that protested on March 23.

The Spectator needs to cover these important stories of concerned citizens peacefully protesting the idiocy of the powers that be.
