Website links students, employers
Think of it as a one-stop shop to connect employers with McMaster University students and recent graduates.
The goal of Hire McMaster — a new initiative created by the career offices on campus — is to make it easier for employers to find students to hire and information on co-op placements, internships, experiential learning and permanent employment opportunities.
“We’re trying to make it as simple as possible,” said Dan Hess, manager of employment development at Mac.
Faculties and departments across the university along with the McMaster Students Union were brought in to help with the initiative, he said.
More than 3,500 students participate in paid co-op work terms of internships across the university each year.
In the past, if an employer were to search online for information on how to hire a McMaster student, they would likely be met with information from various departments and faculties, he said.
“It was a little bit difficult to manage,” said Hess.
This new effort means employers can visit one website that will offer all of the contact information they need and ensure they’re aligned with the right department, Hess said.
The idea stemmed from employer feedback in which they voiced difficulty in finding the right departments to speak to and how to get involved on campus, he said.
It’s a competitive market for students and new graduates, and McMaster wants to ensure employers don’t have any trouble connecting with local talent.
The Hire McMaster campaign launches Thursday, which is when the new website is expected to go live.
